(Vogue UK) Batman is set to get a Giorgio Armani makeover, with the label creating bespoke tailoring for the comic hero’s alter-ego, Bruce Wayne. The designs will appear in Christopher Nolan’s highly-anticipated Batman film, The Dark Knight Rises, which premieres in London tomorrow night.
Armani, who also provided costumes for 2008′s The Dark Knight, worked with award-winning costume designer Lindy Hemming to design two-button, elegant suits – one in charcoal grey pinstripe and another grey plaid. Both styles feature a customised label, Giorgio Armani for Bruce Wayne.
“In the lexicon of superheroes, it’s an honour to be associated with such an intriguing character as Bruce Wayne,” said Armani. ”It’s a privilege that the role again partners me with the talented Lindy Hemming, to create another classic look that projects strength and consistency in Wayne’s edgy, mysterious world. To be involved with the design process for a tremendous talent like Christian Bale is a rewarding experience. I’m thrilled to play a small role in the Dark Knight legacy.”
Armani also outfitted other members of the Batman cast, including Gary Oldman, Michael Caine, Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Anne Hathaway. The label has created costumes for a number of films in the past, most notably Richard Gere in American Gigolo; Kevin Costner, Robert De Niro and Sean Connery in The Untouchables; and Tom Cruise in Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol; and George Clooney and Brad Pitt in Ocean’s 13.
