Nelson Mandela’s Fashion Label Launched in New York

This seems like such an odd endeavor for Nelson Mandela to take on (or use his name for), but it the line has received positive reviews and seems to be very focused on increasing jobs and manugacturing in South Africa.

(The Cut) Named 466/64 after Mandela’s prisoner number on Robben Island, the apparel line launched in South Africa last year, and the first collections are now available online and in specialty stores. At yesterday’s event, which coincided with Nelson Mandela International Day, the faces of 466/64 — Lira (a South African singer) and model Sam Sarong — showed off some of the printed dresses and gingham button-downs. According to WWD, 60 percent of the line is manufactured in South Africa, and 7 to 9 percent of its sales are given to the 466/64 Foundation.
