The Book Club Returns

Oprah wishes her book club were this good.

Full disclosure: this title is a bit miseading because the wonderful book club I’m in has been faithfully meeting every month for about three years, however I have been a complete slacker this summer and missed more than a few get-togethers.  I was lucky enough to find this group completely by accident when my roommate hosted them at our house  one evening and I was immediately drawn into their chat about the book for that month, their love life updates, and the best bikini waxer in DC.  Five glasses of wine me was in lurve

When the opportunity arose this week to catch-up at an impromptu happy hour, I couldn’t let another opportunity slide to get the latest gossip from everyone.  I wasn’t at all disappointed as I sat down at the trendy Oya in Chinatown and started downing Manhattans until my face was sufficiently numb, finding out about the latest book club romances, new jobs, and taking part in debates on whether or not J.Crew’s Minnie pants (some colors now on sale for $49.99!) could be worn to a conservative office.

It was a great night, ending with a slightly awkward proposal from a taxi driver on my way home and a lovely bourbon-induced headache the following morning (worth it).  One of the best parts of meeting up with a group like this are the tips about living/working/beautifying/shopping in the District that are shared with increased frequency as the night goes on and more vino is consumed.  The latest book club-endorsed retailer?  Muléh, located at 14th & T Streets NW.  Owner Christopher Reiter created Muléh (to come home in Javanese) in 1999 to reflect the harmonious subtleties of Asian modern interiors.  Women’s fashion pieces were introduced in 2004 to compliment the store’s lifestyle concept.  Several book club girls highly recommend it, and they are actually hosting an event a week from today on October 5th for Stacy London‘s book signing which I’m covering for All Things Fashion DC along with la mère et les tantes de mon bel homme.  If you’re interested in attending I believe that tickets are still available through Gilt City!
